You’ve been asked to connect a plugin, an agency or an ad account to Google Merchant Center. You need two things: a working Google Merchant Center login and the account ID. This guide is for store owners, marketers and freelancers who can’t find either. After reading it, you’ll be able to sign in, read the right number off the screen and tell it apart from the other “Merchant ID” that is easy to mix up with it.
Go to https://merchants.google.com/mc and sign in with the Google Account associated with your Merchant Center account[1][2]. Your account ID is the number at the top-right corner of the page, above the account email address[2]. A Google payments profile has its own “Merchant ID”, and that’s a different number[6].
You don’t need anything special to follow along, only a Google Account email address and password. If you haven’t created an account yet, start with our setup walkthrough at https://oxfordimpulse.com/how-to-set-up-google-merchant-center/ and come back here afterwards.
Step 1: Open the Google Merchant Center sign-in page
Open https://merchants.google.com/mc in your browser. You need a Google Account email address and password to sign in[1].
One rule worth knowing: one email address can only create one Merchant Center account[1]. That detail matters later, when you work out which login belongs to which account.
Good to know
Google renamed the platform in July 2026, and the login address and your bookmarks are unchanged[5].
Tip
Bookmark the sign-in address so you don’t have to search for it each time.
Step 2: Use the right Google Account
It’s easy to get stuck here. You sign in successfully, but you land on an empty screen or an account you don’t recognise. One possible cause is that your browser signed you in with a different Google Account from the one tied to the Merchant Center account. Google’s guidance is to sign in with the Google Account associated with your Merchant Center account[2].
Here’s how to check and fix it:
- Open a private (incognito) browser window so no saved logins interfere.
- Go to https://merchants.google.com/mc.
- Enter the email address you think was used to create the account or the one you were invited with.
- If it opens an empty or unfamiliar account, sign out and try your other addresses, one at a time.
If you have several logins, use the credentials that match the account ID you’re working on[3]. You can’t change the sign-in email directly[3], so don’t spend time hunting for a setting that edits it. If you need to use a different address, an admin can add it as a user (see Step 4).
Watch out
Before you consider starting a new account because you can’t get into the old one, work out which email address owns the original. A new account will not contain your existing products and settings.
If Google says it can’t sign you in at all, the official help page for that problem is worth a read: “Unable to sign in to your Merchant Center account”[3].
Step 3: Find your Merchant Center account ID
Once you’re in, look at the top-right corner of the page. The account ID is the number shown above your account email address[2]. Copy it from there. Use this number when a plugin, agency or ad account asks for your Merchant Center account ID.
Check the number against the one you were given, particularly if you manage more than one store. A single digit out is enough to link the wrong account. Compare them character by character before pasting it anywhere.
Don’t confuse it with other numbers
Two other numbers can be mistaken for the account ID:
- The payments profile Merchant ID. A Google payments profile has its own “Merchant ID”, found under Settings > Public merchant profile. It is not the Merchant Center ID[6]. If a tool rejects your number, this is worth checking.
- The product “id” attribute. That identifies an individual product in your feed, not the account. Don’t paste a product ID where an account ID belongs.
A quick test: the account ID sits in the top-right corner, above your email address[2]. If you copied a number from anywhere else, check it against the one in the corner.
Step 4: Get access if you can’t see the account
Sometimes you sign in with the right Google Account and still can’t see the store you need. That can mean nobody has added you yet. An admin on the account has to add you.
Ask them to follow these steps[4]:
- Open Settings.
- Click Access and services.
- Open the People and access tab.
- Click Add person, then Add user.
- Enter your email address and choose an access level.
The levels are Super admin, Admin, Standard, Read-only and Email-only access[4]. Our access guide at https://oxfordimpulse.com/add-user-google-merchant-center-access/ has a fuller walkthrough.
Two details to know. First, the invite stays pending until you accept it, so check your inbox and spam folder[4]. Second, the email address must be linked to a Google account[4]. If you use a work address that isn’t linked to one, create a Google Account with it first or give the admin an address that already is.
Good to know
A single user can be added to a maximum of 100 accounts[1]. Agencies and freelancers with large client lists should keep that limit in mind.
You also can’t remove the last admin on an account[4], so make sure a second person has access before the only admin moves on.
Step 5: Check it works and save the details
Before you close the tab, confirm three things. The email in the top-right corner is the one you meant to use. The ID above it matches what you were given or what you’re about to share. And you can open the product or settings pages you need.
Then write the account ID and the owning email address somewhere your team can find them. A shared password manager entry or an internal document is fine. It saves the next person from repeating this whole hunt.
Common mistakes at a glance
- Signing in with a personal Gmail address when the account was created with a work address or the other way round.
- Opening a second account instead of finding the original login.
- Pasting the payments profile Merchant ID where the Merchant Center ID is needed.
- Mixing up the product id attribute and the account ID.
- Waiting on an invite that sits pending because nobody accepted it.
Merchant Center login checklist
Once you’re in and the ID is saved, the next job is a clean feed and healthy product data. Oxford Impulse covers the rest of Merchant Center at https://oxfordimpulse.com/google-merchant-center/ if you want to go further.
